Well, hello there.

It’s been a while!

I feel a bit foolish… but at the same time, I feel an overwhelming sense of peace.

The last time I was here, I was on the fast track to my 12 month planned Adventure to Bliss. Clearly I’ve epic-ally failed at the blogging goals. Three times a week, I believe it was? Yeah, no.

I’ll be totally honest and share that my intense reading goals, and my French studies have fallen short of where they should be at.

However, in my giant deviation from my PLAN, I’ve found solace, refreshing relaxation, new things to learn and take part in, and most of all, more bliss than I could have imagined.

So, what have I been up to? Lots of traveling, working my tail off, applying to grad school, finding my way to “eat right”, exercising like crazy, and even puzzling…

My writing as taken a back-burner. For better or for worse, I’ve found that my little corner of the internet has deviated from being my outlet, to something that drains me… clearly, not what I’m going for.

I’ve found too, that I don’t necessarily want or need the whole world to know all the little details of my world, my thoughts, my everything… I’ve found enjoyment in privacy and a generally heightened sense of poise – an air of mystery I can’t help but loving.

At the same time, words, fascinate me. Putting my thoughts down on “paper” fulfills me.

I go back and forth about this little corner of the internet I call My Life in Snippets. I adore all of my readers – all the friendships I’ve made during MLIS’s time, I’ve made several friends and I’m so excited to keep up with your blogs!! However, I have to say that, for the interim, it’s over for me. I’ve learned so much about myself, and so many other things, with all the energy and effort I’ve put here…but like all things in life, it’s time for me to move forward – on to the next thing!

Maybe, I’ll be back someday to share a story or two… or maybe not.

But for now, I wish all of you the very best, and I’m praying that each of your snippets is filled with something good.

With the Warmest Affection,
Ashlee DeLine

2016 Adventure to Bliss

Whoa! What a month of commitment keeping πŸ˜› January, of course, was my first month of my 2016 Adventure to Bliss. To keep myself accountable, I’ve been keeping track of my progress on each goal – and today, I want to share it with you!

– Be Me. {In Progress}

I think that “being me” is a goal that is going to consistently be in progress all year long. My Adventure to Bliss is really encapsulated completely by my list of goals here – with the overarching one, being – BE ME!

– Act the Way You Want to Feel. {In Progress}

I think I’ve Stopped Nagging. For the most part. πŸ˜‰ I’ve been working REALLY hard to Practice Patience… it’s no easy task and I’m certainly far from having my patience come natural (mainly when I’m hungry πŸ˜‰ ), but I’m working on it πŸ™‚ The first ten days of January I’ll just admit outright that I failed at Sleeping 7.5 hours a night. I blame the holidays and travel. The remainder of the month didn’t get all that much better. I need to sleep more in February. As for feeling, speaking and acting with thankfulness, I think this ties into my stopping my nagging and acting the way I want to feel as a whole.

– Moderation is Key. { In Progress }

Limiting my food “gotchas” to three times per week has been a really large challenge… coming off of Christmas and New Years, I could feel my blood sugar, blood pressure and just my general stomach health all over the place. You know how it is πŸ˜›
Studying portion sizes was absolutely fascinating. At one point during college, I counted my calories routinely… but that’s just NOT reality for me. It’s a time inconvenience, along with just a standard hassle. So, when I started the year off only grabbing one portion of each thing… it was amazing πŸ™‚ I’ve got a long way to go with this, but I’m excited to see where this goal takes me!
As for Splurge on Food – I haven’t done anything in terms of this goal, yet! There’s a fresh produce market around the corner from home and I would like to start going there πŸ™‚

– Be Flexible. { In Progress }

In terms of being flexible, I’m trying my darnedest to not worry about planning out the week in advance in terms of social outings, events, and just general plans. I’m taking steps toward stress management by eating right, exercising and making sure to give time back to me πŸ™‚

– Moments Trump Stuff and Things. { In Progress }

My other half and I had a major organizing party this month – we picked several areas in our apartment and tore them apart, threw everything on the floor and sorted, threw away and re-organized. I’m happy to say that our little apartment is in more order than ever before. I’m particularly pleased with the de-cluttering and organizing of my clothes closet [I managed to pull out 182 items to donate] AND our hall closet. I still cannot grasp how so much STUFF can accumulate. Stay tuned for a post on how you can de-clutter your life – a culmination of the best pieces of advice for de-cluttering any space.
The ten days of January were hectic… but post-that, my other half and I seemed to pick up the evening tidy-up naturally as we settled back into a routine. Who doesn’t love a clean home? πŸ™‚

In an order to be social, I went to Trivia with friends! Then Max’s friend, Gage, came for the weekend. And just this past weekend, my other half and I, along with our circle of friends here in Louisville took a trip up to near Cincinatti for the weekend – what fun it was πŸ™‚

Family time was had twice – during the first few days of the year AND for my Nephew, Kahler’s, birthday party πŸ™‚ I #heart family time.

I failed to send snail mail in January…maybe this month? And as for a date night – I’m not sure how it didn’t manage to happen! But! We did have several commotion free sit-down dinners, yay! πŸ™‚

– Be Mindful. Be Present. { Needs Work }

My meditation and multi-tasking went in waves this month – one week I was really good and the next week I failed epic-ally – let’s just say, I don’t have five hands. And no meditation for a week? Give me a break! πŸ˜›

I think I failed at being mindful and present this month, because I almost missed the mark at taking any of the steps I came up with. In addition, I failed to unplug much… although I foresee some changes in this realm during February.

During February, I really want to be intentional about being present and mindful.

Other Steps to Achieve Bliss… { In Progress }

I can honestly say, that I managed to floss once a day. I’ve also pretty much cut the swearing. Yay, for hygiene and a graceful voice. I crossed my legs less than ten times – only long enough to realize that “hey, you’re crossing your legs, knock it off!”!

This is totally cheating, but I’m actually required at work to define my 2016 Career Goals… so I did that. But I have a long way to go on this – sure, I may have some short-term 2016 goals written down, but I have a lot more self-exploring to do in terms of long-term career goals. I did a little digging into graduate school – and of course that got me thinking about my career… who knows where this will go πŸ˜›

On the fitness side of things, I DID take 10,000 steps per day. I’m not sure if walking counts as cardio, if so, I achieved my 30 minutes of cardio goal all but one day in January (Tuesday, January 5)! Also, I managed to do 30 minutes of strength three times a week, every week! In terms of where I missed the mark, I didn’t manage to run, look into or sign up for any official 10ks, 5ks, half marathons or a marathon. Maybe in February!

As far as volunteering goes… I didn’t take any steps towards this goal. πŸ™ Here we come, February!

Reading has taken a back-burner to my French, my blogging and all the other goals. I managed to read two books. At this rate, I’ll finish one book behind my goal at 24 books.

French has been progressing wonderfully! As soon as I came to the conclusion that learning 100 words a day isn’t reasonable and learning word by word is not the proper way to actually learn a language… I took off on this! I’ve managed to study French 23 out of the 31 days of January. I’m shooting for 25 out of 29 in February! Tres bien!

Finally, in terms of my blog goals, I’ve successfully managed to post three times per week. I’ve also managed to keep up with more interaction between my fellow bloggers! I’ve half-failed at my desire to improve on my pictures… I’m now using picmonkey and Unsplash to create a title picture with the blog title. This has really contributed to my Pins, as well as my posts to Instagram. I say, I’ve half-failed because I have yet to pull out my DSLR! πŸ˜› Now, as for post-timing, I now pre-schedule all my posts… best thing ever. Now I can schedule posts, tweets, shares, retweets, everything – meaning that my posts can go out at peak share times during the day…instead of at 6 AM and 5 PM.
Finally, my goal for 500 Facebook likes, 500 Twitter Followers and 150 Bloglovin’ Followers seems very far off – but I am pleased with my progress this month and am still hoping to grow my social reach πŸ™‚

Of course, most of these goals are works in progress at the moment πŸ™‚ I’m trying and failing and trying – or maybe, I haven’t even made the effort to try. But, point is, I’m doing the best I can, and I can say quite affirmatively, that this sole fact fills my heart with bliss!

Your Turn

Your Turn is a place for me to ask you questions! Be sure to answer them in the comments below! :)

  • Did you make New Years Resolutions? Or January goals? What were they?
  • If yes to the previous question, are you on track to keep up with your goals?
  • When you set a goal, how do you keep yourself accountable?

I’ve been making sugar cookies for several years now, and I have NEVER been able to make a batch so soft and yummy as the ones I made last weekend. [See photos below for a good drooling] πŸ˜‰

The cookies themselves are NOT very sugary. They are soft, and have a slight sweetness to them. However, then add the frosting on top, and you have a sensationally sugary burst of deliciousness that pops into your mouth.

Things I Spend My Money On

Welcome back to week three of the 52 Week Blog Challenge! Today we are going to take a look at things I spend my money on.

Essentials

  • Food
  • Rent
  • Utilities
  • Gas
  • Insurance
  • Donations/Giving Back
  • My Life In Snippets

Everything Else

  • Television < If football wasn’t a thing, this expense wouldn’t be on my list πŸ˜‰
  • Amazon Prime
  • Netflix
  • Travel/Entertainment/Experiences
  • Clothing/Shoes
  • Books < This is a problem. As of the new year, I’ve forbid myself from all book purchases until I read the books I have! On top of that, I’d really like to start going to the library every few weeks… maybe wishful thinking, but we will see πŸ™‚

I actively monitor what I spend money on using Mint and Google Spreadsheets. Of course, just coming off the Christmas holiday, everything seems to get out of hand during Christmas… but that’s okay, it all seems to balance out. I can’t wait for next Christmas though, I have some fabulous (affordable) ideas πŸ™‚

2016_Word_Of_The_Year

After working for most of October, November and December on my plans for my 2016 Adventure to Bliss, I was (and still am) so excited about all the good things that are resulting from it. If you read my challenge for the year, you know that it’s a major undertaking – the list of things to do is intense, yes – but, mostly exciting. As it’s getting closer to the end of January – I’d like to share my 2016 Word of the Year.

Sure, right now you might be saying – “uhm, she realizes it’s a almost the end of January, right?” I don’t think I’m late to this word of the year game. I really wanted to see how my 2016 Adventure to Bliss would make me feel – if it was too much or too little. I wanted to see what I would encounter this year with work and everything else.

I’m super glad I waited. Even just this first month has seemed different to me than the last few of the end of 2015.

The Word

When you try to pick out a word that will be your ultimate go-to throughout the year, it can be a challenge. There are only 26 letters in the English alphabet, yet the number of words is on some mammoth-level – that’s seemingly unfathomable. πŸ˜‰

The most obvious choice for words this year is Bliss. Right? Because I’m on my 2016 Adventure to Bliss. However, the problem with this word is that I want my Adventure to Bliss to span all the years of my life, slowly morphing and changing. Bliss is a feeling I want to steadily experience throughout life.

So, back to the drawing board I went…

My second go at choosing a word was Love. If you haven’t yet read, Love Does by Bob Goff, I highly encourage you to. Goff shares countless stories of letting the phrase, “Love Does” guide his every life move. It’s moving – and whenever I look back to this book, I think, I want to be Bob Goff. πŸ˜‰ So, I thought, why not “love.” Well this is important to me, it simply didn’t *fit* whatever mold I was looking for in terms of a word for 2016.

The third word I came across was hustle. This one actually fits really well, it’s actually perfect. Like I said, my intense list of goals for the year has given me a full plate and having the word hustle be my focus would make sense…

But… why do anything that makes sense when it doesn’t feel right? πŸ˜›

So, my fourth and final word choice, is [drum roll please] – PEACE.

To truly succeed, I need to be at peace. #2016WordOfTheYear #2016Goals
Click To Tweet

How did I get from Hustle to Peace, you ask? Good question. I think that’s just it. I have literally SO much to hustle for this year, so many goals – loving to do, all while being full of bliss – but ultimately, to truly succeed, I need to be at peace. To be at peace with myself, my progress with my goals, work, friends, family and everything.

I’m hopeful that peace is the counterbalance to my Adventure to Bliss. I’m hopeful that this mix, meshes well and ultimately leads to – maybe not a completed list of goals come December 31st, but a more at-peace me πŸ™‚

January 23 Weekly Roundup and Reflection

Happy January 23! I’m back with another Weekly Roundup and Reflection. It is here I will share the good, the bad and the ugly faves of my week.

Event Roundup

What a whirlwind this week has been. Not to mention, oh, hey snow-pocolypse! πŸ˜‰ Kidding, kind of. Now that I no longer reside in Michigan, snow is a bit of a foreign concept to a lot of people in Kentucky. Three inches of snow calls off schools and closes down everything in sight. I can’t even count the number of times someone has said this week something about being sure to get bread and butter before the storm… really? πŸ˜›

No, no, I get it. Different people have different experiences. And that’s okay! It’s actually a good thing! πŸ™‚ I’m just pretty comfortable in snow – even when the threat of 18 inches to two feet is thrown my way.

The funnies thing to me about weather in general is that it never seems to be all that predictable. I mean, I’d NEVER, EVER put money on the table over the weather. This week, prior to the storm, I saw snow count predictions from 1 inch to 24 inches – that’s a BIG difference. πŸ˜›

Ah, well. This weekend will be nice to snuggle up and relax πŸ™‚ Stay warm and safe, friends!

In other news, my other half’s BFF, Gage, arrived Thursday evening to stay with us for a long weekend. Max and Gage spent Friday off in Frankfort at a Bourbon Distillery there while I was back in Louisville between work and other such errands. The stories from the Distillery trip, make me want to go too, preferably when it’s above freezing. πŸ™‚

With the weather, our plans to travel down to Bardstown today to go touring at a few more distilleries changed… silly weather! πŸ˜› But even still, I’m certain we will find something to keep us occupied.

Sometimes, it seems like it takes Mother Nature’s weather craziness to bring everyone to a stop – so we can all just take a breath. πŸ™‚

Madame Chic - A Triple Book Review

Jennifer L. Scott is the author of the three books staring Madame Chic below:

  1. Lessons From Madame Chic — 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris
  2. At Home with Madame Chic: Becoming a Connoisseur of Daily Life
  3. Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic

All three of these books are cute and quick reads – and have a lot to offer. In fact, I read Lessons from Madame Chic on the Plane to Europe! And then again this past December! Shortly after that, I decided to pick up Polish Your Poise. Finally, I picked up At Home with Madame Chic and…

Today, I’d like to share what Scott (and Madame Chic) have taught me through a triple recap of these books!

Lessons from Madame Chic

Eating should command your full attention. After all, you are bringing things into your body. The act should be civilized and respectful.

My other half and I are *trying* to eat at the dinner table every night – instead of in front of the TV. I’ve noticed that eating at the dinner table has helped with this – I pay more attention to the food on my plate and how I’m feeling, rather than the show playing in front of me.

To live well – to live within your means and to avoid the seduction of the material world. This is what I call prospering.

Things are nothing. It’s moments, it’s knowledge, it’s people, it’s experience.

Happiness is not having what you want but wanting what you have.

A positive attitude can go a long way in terms of happiness. Of course, nothing is ever perfect – but if we have a positive attitude, most things can certainly come close.

Extracting pleasure from simple things can be the key to a happy life. If you slow down and take pleasure in simple things, you are more likely to lead a contented and well-balanced existence and less likely to incur unhealthy habits like overspending, hoarding, and overeating.. You are also more likely to be present in the moment and pleasant with your family.

Slowing down and being more present is one of my goals for my 2016 Adventure to Bliss! This can be, however, challenging when you’re used to a rat race mindset πŸ˜‰

Eckhart Tolle, the new age philosopher, says “What you do is secondary. How you do it is primary.”

YES.

When someone compliments you, just say thank you. Take the compliment and smile.

I love this. I constantly hear myself and others try to deny the compliments given… what’s the good in that? Do you think it’s making you sound humble? Just accept the compliment with a thank you and move forward. Or (if you genuinely mean it) return the compliment πŸ™‚ Compliments make people feel good!

At Home with Madame Chic

Having inner peace should always be our goal. Then we can get through our day no matter what happens around up. Once we have it, small things, such as a careless comment from a coworker or a flat tire, will not completely ruin our day. Inner peace will keep us present and put things into perspective.

I’ve found that a few minutes of calm breathing, meditation or simple silence does the trick. On days when I avoid checking my phone for the first thirty minutes when I wake up, I actually feel more revitalized from sleep and much more functional. Inner peace is incredibly important.

To start you need two things: curiosity and enthusiasm. And then you need to become a connoisseur of your own life.

With a smile on your face and a desire to see what’s out there, you can do anything πŸ™‚

Having passion and appreciation for the ordinary. Getting a kick out of everything you do. It is looking at everyday life like a sporting challenge and doing whatever it takes to make it work for you.

Even mundane tasks are important to smile about! I’ll be ironing away and just the act of smiling or humming to myself makes a world of difference. I appreciate the fact that I have an iron, that I’m ironing clothes my other half and I wear for work – it makes me thankful. And gratitude certainly bodes happiness.

So on the regular days, and the extraordinary days, take inspiration from the French and look at homemaking as a pleasurable pursuit. This attitude can turn you from a clueless homemaker to a domestic goddess in no time.

YES! πŸ™‚ On days where I have to clean, I picture having Mary Poppins by my side dancing around singing “Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down…” πŸ˜‰

We must hold on to these dreams, but in the meantime we must not wish away the life we currently have.

Goals and dreams are vital to our existence. But happiness and success is not only obtained at the completion of a goal or dream – it’s a part of the journey πŸ™‚

Polish Your Poise with Madame Chic

There is nothing more powerful than a changed mind. The moment you change your mind and decide you’d like to pay more attention to your appearance, you ignite that power.

Act the way you want to feel! πŸ™‚ I’ve said it before – the mind is a VERY powerful thing. If you’re having a bad day, just say to yourself, “Hey you, feel happy” and then combine that with the actual act of smiling and voila! There you have it. (*Caveat: yes, yes, I know there are bad days that are actually bad… but sometimes we just get into a funk and need to step back and smile).

Being poised is being aware of oneself and one’s surroundings and being flexible and adaptable.

Flexibility is one of my goals for 2016. I find myself so often being focused on a rigid plan – and once the plan is set, you can forget about changing it πŸ˜› This isn’t life. I can’t count the number of times my plans have changed. Planning is nice… but you have to be able to deter from the plan and be content with that determent.

How you behave and live when you are alone is the indicator of how you live your entire life.

YES. This statement could not be more true. We can’t hide our true selves from the world, no matter how hard we try. And honestly, trying to hide ourselves is exhausting. So, if we factor this in, are honest with ourselves and everyone around us – and work to act in a way we are okay with all the time instead of just when we are in the company of others – life will be much more satisfying. Because you can always look back and say, hey, that’s me just being me.

Beauty emerges from the self-confidence you emit and the newfound joy you take in celebrating your unique beauty.

This is a big one. Self-confidence is absolutely key. Feeling down? Or worthless? Or like you’re inept or not pretty or too big or too small? Well, just stop. Think of all the awesomeness you bring to the table. Think of the last person you made smile. Now, go get out there and do something wonderful for someone – whether it be a compliment or some other treat. Felt good, didn’t it? Doing things for others and consciously considering and reflecting on what makes you an individual and special isΒ  vital. Go, right now, and do it! πŸ™‚

Your Turn

Your Turn is a place for me to ask you questions! Be sure to answer them in the comments below! πŸ™‚

  • Does eating command your full attention? If not, why? If so, what do you do to make this so?
  • How do you boost your self confidence when it’s down?
  • There’s a lot of quotes here, what is your favorite one? Why?

52 Week Blog Challenge -- Week Three Strengths and Weaknesses

Welcome back to week three of the 52 Week Blog Challenge! Today we are going to take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of yours truly.

Do you ever feel like weaknesses are simpler to come up with when your assessing yourself? Or do you ever look at a weakness and then find ways to twist it into a strength? Or vice versa? I do too πŸ˜‰ So, on that note, I’m going to start with two weaknesses, move into two qualities that could be strengths or weaknesses and finish up on two strengths.

The Weaknesses – Where I Can Improve

  • Overreacting. Yep, I said it. I overreact. I fall into the what if world WAY too easily. For example, I might not be able to get a hold of someone I love and immediately jump to the conclusion that something horrible has happened. Now, this doesn’t happen ALL the time, and it happens much less than it did now than even just last year, but it’s something I need to continuously work on for sure. Assumptions are no ones best friend.
  • Focusing on the Future. Of course, when you find yourself overreacting and making assumptions, you might find it difficult to live in the present. Hence, one of my big goals for this year is to work towards being more present in everyday life. Forget about every little detail you have to worry about tomorrow, in the coming weeks and months and long term goals and just live today and do your best.

Somewhere In The Middle – A Mix of Good and Bad

  • Planner/Organization: I’m like the world’s greatest planner and organizer. Kidding, kidding… my point is, I enjoy planning. I actually almost need to plan out life…as if it will happen the way I plan it. LOL. πŸ˜› This makes me giggle at the thought because if everything went according to my plans I made back in early high school, I wouldn’t be an Applications Engineer, I wouldn’t have a degree in Computer Science and I probably wouldn’t be living in Kentucky. Plans change as life moves forward….and we really have very little control over where our plans go.
You’d think this would take off the pressure. But for me, and for many others out there, it almost has a way of adding to the pressure. Plan, plan, plan – I say!
So, to be a planner, in my opinion is a weakness because it takes away from my ability to be flexible and present. However, the fact that I am a planner, makes me great at planning events, meetings, organization, etc. This half-strength of mine has come in handy at work as I help plan events or meetings – it’s a vital skill that I stay organized and on top of everything!
  • Too Ambitious/Perfectionist: I’m constantly looking for ways to make things better than they are. I struggle to put my stamp of approval on anything without making everything just *right*. This can definitely be a weakness… clearly. As nothing in this world is ever perfect, how will I ever be accepting of my work that I do finish? However, this quality is also a strength. I’m absolutely determined to do my best… even if my best isn’t perfect. I try and trying counts for something. πŸ™‚

The Strengths – Finishing Strong

5. Communication: Aside from one tiny caveat here – small talk, I enjoy communicating with others. Yes, I’m a definite introvert – but I am very able to communicate ideas, concepts and the like to friends, family and even those I don’t know. I enjoy public speaking opportunities and find energy in communication that either teaches me or someone else something, solves a problem that I or someone else is looking for the answer to, or just feel good communication – like meeting someone new.

6. Empathetic/Peace Maker: I have a deep-rooted desire to make peace with those around me. (This, I know, can get out of hand – but I’m pretty on top of keeping it under control). I enjoy being nice, showing that I care, and making peace where it’s needed. Fighting, yelling – any sort of anger – bothers me greatly. You know the saying “Why can’t we all just get along?” Yeah, that’s me.

Well, that’s a wrap. It’s good to reflect on both our strengths and weaknesses routinely. A word of caution though, so many of us find ourselves reflecting constantly on our weaknesses instead of our strengths… take time to really focus on and pat yourself on the back for your strengths!

In the midst of the December rush, I was awarded the Liebster Award for Bloggers – talk about an awesome Christmas present πŸ™‚ The award goes to new(er) blogs who are just starting out and who have less than 200 subscribers.

I’m very happy to accept this award from Ally at HydroSupraLicked! Thank you, Ally! πŸ™‚ She has a series of questions that I must answer to complete the acceptance of the award. After that, I’ll share with you my nominees for the Liebster Award and 10 questions that they must answer to accept their nomination.

If I have to look up how to spell Liebster one more time… πŸ˜‰

Q & A

1) How did you decide to pick your blog name?

The word “snippet” has always tickled my fancy, you might say. Somewhat like bliss, does. It occurred to me at one point early in my college career that each day is filled with little snippets of life – waking up, brushing teeth, enjoying a meal, phone conversations, events – and each snippet can be broken up into a million other snippets – think atomically small! So, each day we wake up and we are so blessed to be a part of millions and millions of snippets and each snippet can change the next. See where I’m going with this? It just changed how I looked at life. Each snippet is meant to be cherished – as humans, we must live in each snippet as it’s happening, or else we will be forever without it. And this is how I came to blog at My Life In Snippets.

2) What are 5 words that describe your personal style?

Five words? Actually, only three came to mind…
Comfortable: I enjoy being comfortable – I’m not a huge fan of heels or restrictive clothing. I enjoy ballet flats and cotton πŸ™‚
Classy: I like to think of myself as bearing some of Audrey Hepburn’s stylistic qualities. She was so poised, so feminine. I adore her.
Simple: I don’t wear a ton of jewelry or do my hair up to perfection. As far as makeup goes, the most you’ll catch me wearing is a little blush and some Chapstick, if that can be considered makeup πŸ˜‰

3) Where is a place you’d like to travel but have never been before?

Austria! I so, so, SO want to travel to Austria. Read about why, here πŸ™‚ Aside from that, there’s a lot of places I’d truly like to travel to! From Thailand to Antarctica! πŸ™‚

4) What inspired you to start blogging?

I happened to stumble upon a blog called Lemons, Avocados and the Bay and I fell absolutely in love with it. I hadn’t ever really considered myself a writer… and I honestly still don’t. But I do like to share my story, in my own way. And it is here I can do that. And it makes me feel, absolutely amazing – it’s refreshing and relaxing to write – to simply have a conversation with the rest of the world (or maybe just myself πŸ˜‰ ).

5) Where would you encourage others to travel to?
Any travel can be absolutely worth while. I have found so much joy in recent years of traveling in Europe from London to Paris to Brussels to Berlin to Venice to Rome. But at the same time, I love traveling to places I’ve always been, like Lake Michigan in Holland. While the new bring culture, new foods, language and all sorts of memories – the old always seem to bring comfort and extreme relaxation.
Of course, I know I have to choose. So, here it goes. If you’re looking for a place to go in the States, check out Holland, MI and Lake Michigan next summer. If you’re looking to go elsewhere, go to Venice, get absolutely lost and find yourself again without a map — totally worth it. πŸ™‚

6) What is your favorite quote?
How could I ever pick just one?! Quotes, you’ll find, are some of my favorite things. There’s a quote for everything! Can we settle for top three? Here they are [in no particular order]:
>> β€œHappiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
>> β€œPromise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” — A.A. Milne

>> “Listen, it’s too big a world to be in competition with everyone. The only person who I have to be better than is myself. And in your case, that’s enough.” – Colonel Potter, M*A*S*H

7) Tell me about your most memorable travel experience?

My month in Europe with my other half was probably the best travel experience I’ve had. Although it wasn’t as *la-tee-dah* as Walt Disney World… because what can top seeing and hugging Mickey Mouse!?! But, Europe was absolutely splendid. It was a fast paced culture shock. It was beautiful. It was delicious. And it left me hungrier than ever for more travel adventures! Up next is Vancouver and Whistler Blackcomb where I’m going to try desperately not to break myself or freeze to death on the top of a mountain.

8) What was your first concert?
I’m not a huge concert-going person… I think it might have been the
Beach Boys with my Mom and Dad. Of course, being a lover of older-style
music, I’m not complaining πŸ™‚ “Surfin USA…”

9) Do you remember the first time you danced?
Honestly? No. Dancing is kind of a hidden thing for me. Sure I’ll dance with my other half. And when my best friend in colleges sister was married, we danced all night long. But the first time I danced? Haven’t a clue. πŸ˜‰

10) How do you decide what you are going to blog about?
Even though I officially started blogging in September of 2014, I am still working to refine my favorite blog topics. It took me about 6 months to figure out that, “hey, this is your corner of the internet and you should do with it as you please.” πŸ˜‰ To plan, I’ve dabbled in blogging planners but found that google calendar tasks works best for me. πŸ™‚

Liebster Award Nominees from MLIS

And the Liebster Awards for awesome bloggers go to….

Congratulations! πŸ™‚

Q’s for the Nominees

  1. What is your favorite dessert?
  2. Most embarrassing moment, ready, and go!
  3. Pick the holiday that is most important to you.
  4. How do you stay healthy?
  5. What is your favorite part about being a blogger?
  6. Tell me five random facts about you.
  7. If you made a New Years Resolution for 2016, how’s it going? Are you keeping it? If you didn’t make a New Years Resolution, what’s a bad habit you would like to get rid?
  8. What is the greatest challenge you find about blogging?
  9. Last movie you watched? Good or bad?
  10. You are awarded a private dinner with five people (dead or alive) – who would you invite and why?

As I’ve worked to create goals for 2016 in My Adventure to Bliss, one of them is widening my follower-base, so this came as another push to do so! (Look for future content on how I plan to increase my followers!).

January 16 Weekly Roundup and Reflection

Happy January 16! I’m back with another Weekly Roundup and Reflection. It is here I will share the good, the bad and the ugly faves of my week.

Event Roundup

This week has really been about getting back into the swing of things. It’s actually my other half and I’s first weekend home this weekend since December 13 :O All the weekends since have been spent in Michigan visiting family through the holidays and last weekend for my nephew, Kahler’s birthday. Craziness!

Last Sunday, was Kahler’s first birthday party. He’s actually been one since the week before, but the party was Sunday. My sister (his mother) did an amazing job putting together a Mickey Mouse themed party… and really, it was completely Mickey Mouse Clubhouse… everywhere! There were red paper plates, a giant Mickey, food named by Mickey’s friends, and of course, everyone was wearing their ears! All in all it was a fun time and I simply cannot believe the little guy is already one!

Kahler's First Birthday Party - 4

Kahler's First Birthday Party - 3

Kahler's First Birthday Party - 1

Kahler's First Birthday Party - 2

Then came Monday and the work week began again. Monday was actually my other half and I’s two year anniversary. This may not seem like a lot to you – but it is to me (us)! I look back and reflect on all the change that has taken place in the past two years and cannot imagine it going any other way… but at the same time, all that change certainly had the power to make our paths take a different route than they did. I’m incredibly blessed to have Max at my side and I’m so looking forward to the adventures we have planned for 2016! πŸ™‚

My Other Half And I's 2 Year Aniversary

The rest of the week consisted of working and cleaning and just living life. Thursday night was game night with Max and our friend Cody. We played Crowns. Have you ever played crowns? It’s SO much fun πŸ™‚
All in all a really good week! Can’t wait to see what the next week ahead brings.

MLIS Roundup

Link Roundup

I have to say, I was constantly saving posts this week to share here… I’m afraid it’s turned into quite the long list. But trust me, it’s worth it. And if you’re a blogger out there, pat yourself on the back – because your readers (people like me) think you’re awesome πŸ™‚

Media Roundup

Lindsey Stirling is literally my new best friend when it comes to work. I’ve found that listening to her really has kept me going and focused! Here are three of my favorites!

Minimal Beat

Electric Daisy Violin

Elements

Like the roundups? Check out a few past editions!

Well, that’s all for now. Happy January 16! I’m hopeful that your week past, your day today and your week ahead are filled with happy snippets of your very own. :)

52 Week Blog Challenge -- Week 2: Behind the Scenes

Welcome back to week two of the 52 Week Blog Challenge! Today we are going behind the scenes for a look at what life is like for me, the blogger.

I’ve mentioned before that I have a full-time job, that’s NOT blogging. I’m an Applications Engineer. Soooo…basically this means that I’m constantly looking at the screen πŸ˜‰ I’m not complaining!! My job allows me to explore creativity in one area, while blogging allows me to use a different part of my creative brain. This balance is vital to my success!

When?

Before work. If I’m not doing a strength workout or pressing snooze, I am almost definitely writing or building my social media presence.

During work, I have a notebook so just in case I have a fleeting blog post thought, I can jot it down. I’ve found that this quick note taking helps me release the idea and move on with my task at hand.

At lunch, I’m almost always posting/sharing to social media, commenting and reading others blogs or writing away.

After work and on the weekends, as my other half intently watches football, soccer or basketball – or even just TV – I have my laptop propped up on my lap, typing away. Or if I’m in need of more steps before the days end, I’ll walk with my phone’s notepad open, writing, writing, writing.

It gets a little hectic at times… In fact, there have been points in the past when I’ve found myself feeling burnt out. And then I take a few days off, and miss my little blogging home like crazy and get right back into it πŸ™‚

Where?

Literally, everywhere. In the car, on walks, during lunch, after and before work… five minutes is five minutes – and I make every second count.

How?

Phone + Laptop + Handwritten Notes – okay, I won’t lie, I prefer typing on my laptop, but you do what you have to do πŸ™‚ And sometimes, when my phone decides to die and I’m without my laptop, I don’t at all mind pulling out my notebook and writing away – only to later have to copy my notes to my laptop!

Who?

The answer to this seems obvious. ME! Clearly. πŸ˜‰ Although, I would say that everyone around me finds a way to contribute. Whether with words spoken, actions shown, etc… For example, my other half often finds himself playing the role of my personal photographer. <3

What?

My blogging topics range from food to technology to just everyday snippets of my life. I enjoy blogging about things that interest me – not necessarily the things that interest everyone else.

I have a rolling list of blog topics (all stored on my Google Calendar task list) – just in case there comes a day or a time period where I can’t come up with anything fresh.

Why?

Uhm, hello! Because I love it. Honestly, wholeheartedly. It amazes me what twenty-six little letters can combine together to make. Words, to me, are fascinating. Writing is a creativity outlet – a stress reliever – and it brings me joy to be writing snippets of my life to you.

Hiya! With the Holiday season finally past, I am excited to finally share this fun experience I had at the end of last year πŸ™‚ At the beginning of November, I, along with several other bloggers partnered off for the Blogging Elite Christmas Box Swap! I was partnered with Sarah over at Devastate Boredom! For the entire month of November and a little bit of December, Sarah and I sent literal novels back and forth to one another. So, what did Sarah send me for the Christmas Box Swap?

  • Eggnog Snickerdoodles. When I mentioned to Sarah that I had never tried Eggnog, she had a virtual “WHATTTT” moment. πŸ˜‰ So, of course, I have to try it! But oh my goodness, delicious!

As I opened the box, I couldn’t stop smiling – I couldn’t stop literally saying “Oh, my gosh” in an incredibly giddy manner. Sarah managed to take our email exchanges and come up with one of the coolest – and most meaningful set of gifts I’ve ever received. The Christmas Box Swap was an incredibly rewarding experience – and I can’t wait to give it another whirl in the new year!

A huge thank you goes out to Sarah, especially πŸ™‚ and to Nina for hosting the Blogging Elite Christmas Box Swap!
